quested, family tree

Quested Surname.

This page is dedicated to the Quested Surname

Quested is a rare name, in England at least.

Quested is in my family tree twice. Quested's appear to originate from around Ashford in Kent, England. The infamous Quested is Cephas who was reportedly hung for smuggling. There is a ficticious Adela Quested in the book "A Passage to India" who arrives in India with the intention of marrying a Ronny Heaslop. Click here for more info on this. This page has names that I have gathered in the past and haven't done much with for some time, but I thought it about time I did something about it. The links below will take you to extracts from St Catherines index and other sources. There is a lot more that I have, and hope to be able to get it on this page in the near future. I actually wrote to about 50% of the Quested's in the phone book some years ago and got responses from about 30% of them. I was able to collect a lot of information very quickly this way. You will find the phone book link below which clearly shows the majority living in South East England (At least at the time that I did it) I suspect it is still the case. Due to restrictions on living people, I cannot put names that are less than 100 years old on the Internet. I also believe that I can no longer email them to anybody either. The usual posting system is okay though (I think). Anyway, I do have names for people up to 1930 (ish). That all said, I think you will find a good deal of useful information on the Quested surname on this site. Watch this space for more updates coming soon. Just be patient with me, I will get to it. Keep checking back to see what has changed.

Mary Quested is my direct ancestor who, despite all the info I have, I have not been able to link into anyone else, and currently this line is at a dead end. She married in Fordwich in Kent in the 1700s. If you can help me continue this Quested line, I would be over the moon.

My name is Graham Butcher (A Quested descendant)
